The two smartpens are identical in every way except for the volume of storage.
There is a difference in price. Why would you choose the 2gb or the 8gb model?
The 2gb Echo is shipped is a new-sealed box and includes some items that are NOT included with the 8gb, specifically a starter notebook and an extra ink cartridge.
The 8gb Echo is NOT packaged in a sealed box. It is new, with a full warranty from Livescribe, but the item is shipped in a plain brown box in the way that they are currently shipped from Livescribe.
While the price difference is modest, very few customers will ever need all the storage in a 2gb Echo. For most customers, the extra memory will (literally) never be used. Unless you intend to record a great deal of audio (as a judge may do, for example, recording many many hours of testimony), the 2gb Echo is likely sufficient. Use the extra dollars to buy something 'useful' such as Livescribe paper products or ink cartridges.

LightScribe Windows 10
After some 6 months or so working with LightScribe and Windows 10 a few things have emerged…

1: Lightscribe has not suffered or benefited from the change from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.
.
2:Windows 10 Home is still more forgiving regarding installation of the LightScribe System Software (LightScribe Drivers) than Windows 10 Pro.
.
3: If you have LightScribe installed on a Win 7 or 8 machines prior to upgrading to Windows 10 you are more likely to keep it than install it fresh on a new Win 10 install.

4: You still can’t install the LightScribe Template Labeler on Windows 10, directly but you can using these indirect methods I have discovered **

5: The best way to install the System Software on Windows 10 is using the compatibility settings, like this:

1: Select compatible setting and then click on use recommended setting.
2: Then click on test settings, program will install and will work.
3: Then just restart machine and you are done.
4: If LSS has not loaded then just go to programs load it from there.
